Raphael Canogar
(Toledo – 1935)
One of the main representatives of Spanish Informalism and member of the El Paso group (Madrid). He has received important appointments: Member of the Board of Directors of the Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, Madrid 1983-1986, Member of the Advisory Council of the General Directorate of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture, Madrid 1981-1982 and 1983-84, Member of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Madrid 1983 and Member of the National Heritage Administration Council, Madrid 1984-1990.
He has participated in countless individual and collective exhibitions. Among the individual ones, several have been retrospectives, among others: National Museum of Contemporary Art, Madrid 1971 and in the Rooms of the Ministry of Culture, of the National Library of Madrid. He has conducted various workshops and given countless conferences in various countries in Europe and America. And participated in juries for international prizes and biennials.
He has received various awards and distinctions, including: Gold Palette at the International Painting Festival, Cagnes-Sur-Mer, 1969.- Grand Prix at the Sao Paulo Biennial, Brazil 1971. The "Iberian Daily Sun" awarded the "Sol de Oro" in 1972-.Grand Prize of the International Triennial of Painting, Sofia 1982.-National Prize of Plastic Arts, Madrid 1982.
